Limmernsee Hike
Description
This hike will guide you through the stunning viewpoint of the Limmernsee lake. Asides from this highlight, you will get to wander through beautiful alpine landscapes.
After taking the gondola, you will have to go though a tunnel for about 3 km or 45 minutes. This part is a bit boring, but it will allow you to reach the Limmernsee lake easily. From the lake, you will be climbing to the Muttenchopf summit. At the top, take some time to enjoy the views and take some photos.
From there, you will backtrack a bit before reaching the Muttseehütte. Then, you will start the descent to the Kalktrittli station. This section is a bit more challenging, which motivates me to rate it as a T3 hike. If you don’t feel comfortable with descending on exposed paths, you can still take the same route used to reach the summit.
Logistics
You need to reach the train station
Linthal first. Then, you need to reach the gondola station
Tierfed to reach the
Kalktrittli station.
Sadly, there’s no public transport between Linthal station and the Tierfed cable car. You have to either walk an extra 6 km or grab a taxi. To come back, you will need to do the same in reverse.
Please note that the cable car is tiny, fitting only 8 people at a time, so be prepared for a possible wait.
