Hardergrat Ridge Hike

Description

Above Interlaken, this ridge hike offers great views of Lake Brienz and Lake Thun. The Hardergrat hike is one of the most famous hikes in Switzerland.

Many people are walking the full length of the legendary ridge, from Harder Kulm to Brienz Rothorn. However, the part between Augstmatthorn and Brienz Rothorn is considered dangerous and not recommended for everyone. This is not a marked trail, and therefore, I cannot recommend it. This version of the hike covers only the safe part.

The hike starts after taking the Harderbahn funicular to Harder Kulm. The trail begins in forest, but after a while, you will be able to see the amazing views of Lake Brienz. If you are lucky, you might spot some ibexes on your way to the Augstmatthorn. When you reach the Augstmatthorn, take some time to enjoy the views before heading down to the Alp Lombach.

Logistics

To get to the trailhead, ride the Harderbahn funicular from Transport icon Interlaken Harderbahn to Transport icon Harder Kulm.

The hike ends in Transport icon Habkern, Lombachalp-Roteschwand. Bus connections are limited; check schedules in advance. You can also plan to continue on foot to Transport icon Habkern, Post.
