Caumasee Winter Hike

Description

The Caumasee is one of the most beautiful lakes in Graubünden, known for its turquoise color and its location in the middle of the forest. In winter, if the temperatures are low enough, you might be able to see the lake frozen. I was lucky enough to witness it during this hike.

Before visiting, I recommend checking if there’s snow on the ground to avoid disappointment. The hike starts in Flims, leading you straight into the forest. When I did it, most of the trail was covered in snow, creating a quiet and beautiful atmosphere.

After following the pink markings, you will start seeing the Caumasee. The hike doesn’t go directly to the lake, but you can walk down to the shore of the lake to take some photos. The frozen lake and the snow on the trees were really beautiful. After staying there for a while, you can go back on the trail and continue towards the Il Spir viewpoint.

Il Spir is a viewing platform over the Rhine Gorge, also known as the Swiss Grand Canyon. I recommend you visit it, as it offers beautiful views over the gorge. Then, you will go back on the path in the middle of the forest. Be cautious over there, as the snow can turn into ice in some sections and make it very slippery.

After some time walking on the road, you will reach the end of the hike at the Flims Bergbahnen bus stop.
