Altitude Hike in Gornergrat

The Gornergrat hike is on top of my list because it offers a unique landscape made of glaciers, mountain lakes and a beautiful view of the Matterhorn.

This hike starts in the Gornergrat cogwheel station. From there, you are immediately treated with a breathtaking view of the Gorner Glacier and the iconic Matterhorn.

Then, you will follow a ridge (Hohtälligrat) that leads you to the Hohtälli summit at 3273 meters. This section has some challenging parts, walking on boulder fields and uneven terrain. But this is worth it since you can finally get away from all the tourists. After enjoying the beautiful views on the glaciers, you can go down towards the Gornergratsee.

Hardergrat Ridge Hike

Above Interlaken, this ridge hike offers great views of Lake Brienz and Lake Thun. The Hardergrat hike is one of the most famous hikes in Switzerland.

Many people are walking the full length of the legendary ridge, from Harder Kulm to Brienz Rothorn. However, the part between Augstmatthorn and Brienz Rothorn is considered dangerous and not recommended for everyone. This is not a marked trail, and therefore, I cannot recommend it. This version of the hike covers only the safe part.

Limmernsee Hike

This hike will guide you through the stunning viewpoint of the Limmernsee lake. Asides from this highlight, you will get to wander through beautiful alpine landscapes.

After taking the gondola, you will have to go though a tunnel for about 3 km or 45 minutes. This part is a bit boring, but it will allow you to reach the Limmernsee lake easily. From the lake, you will be climbing to the Muttenchopf summit. At the top, take some time to enjoy the views and take some photos.

Aletsch Glacier and Ice Cave

This hike offers some of the best views of the Aletsch Glacier, the largest glacier in the Alps. The most adventurous of you can also get closer to the glacier and admire the ice cave (from the outside).

The hike begins in Fiescheralp with a steady climb. After reaching the top, you will be able to see the Aletsch Glacier in the distance. From here, the glacier stays in sight as you continue towards the Märjelensee lake.

Golden Autumn in Engadin

Hiking in the Engadin is a beautiful experience in autumn. The pine forests become orange/yellow which gives this name of Golden Autumn. This hike will guide you through some of the most beautiful autumnal landscapes in the Engadin I have ever witnessed.

The hike takes you from Maloja, a small village in the Engadin. From there, you will follow the Via Engiadina, a regional trail through the Engadin. Shortly, you’ll see the turquoise waters of Lake Sils, glowing against the golden trees. The turquoise color of the lake goes perfectly with the autumnal colors of the trees and the meadows. From there, you will start seeing the trees with orange/yellow leaves.

Five Lakes Trail in Zermatt

This very popular hike in Zermatt is a loop around five alpine lakes, each offering a different color and a different but always beautiful view. The trail is beginner-friendly and offers stunning views of the Matterhorn.

The usual version starts in Blauherd station. Doing so will decrease the elevation from 610 meters to 310 meters only. But if you don’t mind the additional climbing, you can save some money by starting in Sunnegga.

Matterhorn Glacier Trail

The Matterhorn Glacier Trail offers a spectacular journey through one of Switzerland’s most iconic alpine landscapes. Starting high above Zermatt, the path winds between shimmering ice fields and rugged rock, with the majestic Matterhorn towering above as a constant backdrop. Along the way, you can admire stunning glacial formations and crystal-clear mountain streams that reveal the raw beauty of nature at work. The trail is both accessible and thrilling, making it an unforgettable experience for anyone eager to explore the dramatic scenery of the high Alps.

Triftsee Hike

The Triftsee Hike is a spectacular alpine adventure in the Grimselwelt region, offering breathtaking views of glaciers, turquoise lakes and rugged mountain landscapes. Starting at Triftbahn, the trail leads across the famous Trift Bridge and continues to Windegghütte. Hikers can choose between the more challenging Ketteliweg (T3) path or the easier Familienweg (T2). Beware, the Ketteliweg is pretty difficult and recommended only for the most adventurous hikers willing to use the chains to climb on a narrow exposed path.

Grindelwald to Lauterbrunnen

The hike from Grindelwald to Lauterbrunnen is a classic route that showcases some of the most iconic scenery in the Bernese Oberland. From Grindelwald, the trail climbs steadily to Kleine Scheidegg, where sweeping views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau create an unforgettable alpine panorama. The path then descends into the Lauterbrunnen Valley, with its dramatic cliffs and countless waterfalls providing a spectacular finish. At nearly 20 kilometers, this hike combines variety, beauty and a true sense of Swiss mountain grandeur.

Walenpfad Trail

The Walenpfad is one of Switzerland’s most scenic balcony trails, offering wide-open views over the Bannalpsee lake and the surrounding mountain peaks. The path gently winds along sunny slopes and alpine meadows, with traditional mountain huts and grazing cattle adding to the charm of the journey. Hikers are rewarded with ever-changing panoramas, from glittering lake waters far below to dramatic cliffs rising above. With its mix of natural beauty and authentic alpine atmosphere, the Walenpfad is a truly memorable hiking experience for all nature lovers.

Caumasee Winter Hike

The Caumasee Winter Hike is a peaceful walk through snow-covered forests and frozen landscapes in the Flims region. The trail leads to the famous Caumasee, where the turquoise lake transforms into a magical winter scene. From there, the route continues to the Il Spir viewing platform, offering dramatic views over the Rhine Gorge, often called the “Swiss Grand Canyon”. With gentle elevation changes and about 10 kilometers of distance, this hike is ideal for enjoying the beauty of winter in Graubünden at a relaxed pace.

Aletsch Glacier Winter Hike

The Aletsch Glacier Winter Hike offers a breathtaking journey along the edge of the largest glacier in the Alps. Starting from Moosfluh, the trail follows snowy ridges with constant views of the endless ice flow, creating a truly unforgettable winter atmosphere. The route then descends toward the resort villages, with sweeping panoramas of the surrounding peaks all along the way. At 13 kilometers with moderate elevation changes, this hike combines the magic of winter landscapes with the grandeur of one of Switzerland’s most iconic natural wonders.
